FORUM TOPIC--DON'T WRITE A GRODY COVER LETTER!
COVER YOUR BUTT...AT ALL TIMES!
Your basic cover letter should be a very direct and simple group of words with a meaning
pertaining to your project. in other words: get to what your presenting, finish and sign off.
Your written material will reveal your talent. FLOWERY WORDS and FANCIFUL EXPRESSIONS
will not help sell your work.
Here is an example of a simple, to the point, cover letter:
Dear__________,
Enclosed are the (first three chapters or manuscript) plus an outline (if requested) of my (#
of words) word (genre--novel if fiction), titled, (name) for your review (or publication). It is (briefly describe
your work in two or three sentences or a short paragraph--this is your "hook").
My writting credits are (if you have any or if not say "This is my first __________).
I have also enclosed a SASE for your reply. (if you want your material returned,
be sure to also enclose a properly stamped envelope)
Thank you for your time in considering my work. I await your reply.
Regards, or Respectfully, or Sincerely,
(your name)
Never, send original material. and, by all means, make sure your material is clean and
in the proper format.
Now, go softly into the night. mgf
